Meet this week’s featured artist, Stan Wenocur; member since 2003:
ME: I am a self-taught artist living and working in Columbia, MD. My studio, which I share with my wife, Lucy, is built onto our house at Green Dragon Court. I have been painting and exhibiting since the mid-1960’s. I retired early from a teaching career at the University of Maryland Baltimore (Professor Emeritus) in order to paint full time. I am represented in the collections of several art museums. My website is: www.stanwenocurart.com.
MY ART: My paintings are primarily abstract mixed media works that incorporate a variety of materials, such as fabrics, paper, concrete, acrylic mediums and acrylic paint. These pieces are usually layered and highly textured. In my working process, I typically de-construct and re-construct a piece to reveal underlying elements. My drawings, on the other hand, are usually photorealistic landscapes or portraits done in charcoal on paper, such as the self-portrait you see above.
MFA & ME: I have been a member of the MFA for many years. MFA is one of the very few Maryland organizations devoted to supporting artists and art-making. Accordingly, membership in MFA has provided me with opportunities to exhibit and sell my work, to meet and learn about other artists, and to learn about art activities in the area.
Spread the word about…YOU! Every week, we feature an MFA member for “Me & My Art Monday.” If you would like to be featured, please submit a photo and three paragraphs: one each about YOU, YOUR ART, and MFA & YOU totaling approximately 350 words, to meandmyart@mdfedart.org.
