Karen Scannell
Karen Scannell is an Irish artist, living and working from her “Swallowsnest Studio” in Wexford (South East of Ireland) . She received her degree in Fine Art Sculpture, from The University of Glamorgan, Wales. From 2009-2013 she was heavily involved in the Plein Air movement in Ireland, working on the Committee for one of largest Plein Air Events in Europe “Art In The Open”, and helping to organise paint outs for the local Plein Air Group “South East Plein Air”. Recently her focus is in developing her work further.
“I try not to look at the competitive side of these events, but rather look to gain new experiences and broaden my mind-set in order to keep building on my painting skillset. “Plein Air Painting” for me, is a means to work closely with nature. We use all our senses to experience how our environment is in constant change, and the effects of these changes. In an age of where technology can act as a barrier to real experience, Plein Air Painting has been a great “touchstone” to reconnect with our environment’s natural rhythm and a means to witness and express our response to that in real time..”
