MFA Members at West Annapolis Artworks and Fine Framing

“Colors of Summer”: West Annapolis Artworks presents an exhibit of art curated by Patrice Drago. This show creates a vibrant array of summer-themed words by well-known local and regional artists such as MFA Members David Diaz, Wil Scott, Gail Higginbotham, Patrice Drago, Maureen Farrell, Kellee Conrad, Lynn Mehta, Janna Zuber, Jennifer Wilkinson Rynbrandt, Carolyn Councell, Nichole Leavy and a host of local artists. This exhibit opened June 1, and will remain on view through August 24.

MFA Members juried by National Gallery of Art Curator:

MFA Members Christopher Fowler, Wil Scott, Richard Weiblinger, and Richard Niewerth are pleased to announce that their pieces have been included in a juried exhibition at the Hill Center, 921 Pennsylvania Avenue SE, Washington DC. The opening reception will be held on June 25th from 6:00PM-8:00PM and the exhibition will be on display through September 29th.

Update: out of all 100 works accepted, photos by Chris and Richard were hung next to each other!

 

 MFA Member Rick Casali has moved his workshop and is now holding classes every Monday at Maryland Hall from June 8th to July 27th (6:30 PM to 9:00 PM). Lectures will be given on the geometric planes of the face, structure of the skull, and the anatomy of eyes, nose, mouth, and ears. For more information check out his website.

MFA Member Sandy Cohen is featured in a solo exhibition in Martino Gallery at Maryland Hall from May 11-July 11. The show is titled “BECOMING: Artistry in the Making.”

 

Artist Boot Camp

MFA Member Kellee Wynne Conrad will be leading discussions on gallery representation for all artists, on August 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th; both seasoned and novice artists are welcome. Join her this summer for a 4 day Boot Camp at Jordan Faye Contemporary. Find out more here.

MFA Member Steve Ember has a show at Quiet Waters Park entitled ‘Scapes by Steve Ember. The opening reception is Sunday, July 12th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and park admission is waved for those attending. Click here to read Steve’s blog post about ‘Scapes.

MFA Member Sharon Navage is honored to have two of her pieces included in the Impressions 2015 at Houston Community College, Houston TX. The opening is July 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and the exhibition runs through July 30

 

MFA Member April Rimpo’s solo exhibit, Modes of Transportation is opening at Glenview Mansion on August 2 with a reception from 1:30-3:30pm. The exhibit runs through August 21st. Glenview Mansion is at 603 Edmonston Drive, Rockville MD 20851. Hours are MWF 9am-4:30pm, TuTh 9am-9pm.

 MFA Member Richard Weiblinger has been juried into the McLean Project for the Arts Invitational Exhibition. The show runs June 18-August 1, 2015

ARTIST OPPORTUNITIES

Call for Muralists

The Bethesda Arts and Entertainment District is seeking applications for their “Paint the Town” mural project in downtown Bethesda. The selected would paint on the Capital Crescent Trail Retaining Wall and receive $15,000 for supplies and labor. Deadline to apply is July 31. The project must be completed by October 15, 2015. Seeking Visual Artists for After-School Classes

The Performing and Visual Arts Magnet of Anne Arundel County Public Schools is seeking visual artists to teach extended day/after school classes this fall. Contact msteiner@aacps.org for more information.

Request for Proposal: Hospice of the Chesapeake

Hospice of the Chesapeake is requesting proposals from artists for work to hang in the chapel/reflection space of their new Inpatient Care Center.  $10,000 commission will be awarded to the artist(s) chosen. Deadline for proposals is July 15. More information.

Call for Artists: Jordan Faye Contemporary

Jordan Faye Contemporary’s Thrive Program and Exhibition is seeking artists for the Late Summer session (July 24-26). The program is geared towards artists who are developing their professional careers and participants are considered Thrive Alumni, which makes them eligible for ongoing opportunities (potential solo shows, artists residencies, etc). Call for Artists: Gallery 333

Gallery 333 has openings for 2 month shows Nov/Dec 2015 and most slots of 2016. They are seeking 30-40 2d works, any media, wired for walker hanging systems. Send images representative of work to Deb Boudra at 4debsart@comcast.net. The gallery takes 20% commission for UUCA and its supported programs (Lighthouse Shelter & Habitat). Also seeking 3D work of all types. The glass case is counter height, lit, and 5 ft wide with adjustable shelves.

Call for Artists: The Artist’s Gallery of Columbia

Their show “Local Color” is coming up and they are looking for submissions by July 30. A prospectus is shown below. Gallery 3976 is located in the Annapolis Design District has 11 studio spaces available. Each space is 250sf with walls, open ceilings and locking doors. Call for Artists: 2015 Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival

The Maryland Sheep Breeders Association would like to announce the 2016 Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival Cover Art Competition, featuring a grand prize of $1000 and up to four $100 honorary mention awards. Call for Artists: RiverArts August Exhibition

RiverArts invites you to submit your work for a multimedia show. Artists or groups are asked to submit up to two works which may be displayed in the RiverArts Gallery. All artwork must be for sale. Because of the unusual formats being sought for the show, RiverArts is asking artists to communicate interest early so that requirements for displays can be arranged. August 7th-29th, 2015 in the main RiverArts gallery in Chestertown. The opening reception will be Friday August 7th, from 5-8 pm. Call for Artists: RiverArts September Juried Fine Craft Show

RiverArts’ first juried fine arts and craft show will be on display September 4-25. The curators are seeking the best of American craft in quality and design, including ceramics, jewelry, fiber arts, glass and wood, etc. Interested artists must submit photos and complete the entry form by July 31. Call for Artists: Maryland State Arts Council

Each year, the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) awards grants ranging from $1,000 – $6,000 to Maryland artists. These Individual Artist Awards (IAA) honor the unique contributions of Maryland artists to the state’s creative economy and help support artists as they advance their craft. The 2016 IAA application is now open to Maryland artists. The deadline for 2016 applications is 4:30 PM on Thursday, July 23, 2015. Click here to apply and for more information.

Call for Guest teacher: Annapolis PVA Teacher

The Performing and Visual Arts Magnet (PVA) Program at Annapolis High School has a visual arts guest teacher availability for both the fall and spring of next school  year (2015 and 2016). The class is designed by the guest artist so it is customized to fit your skills and interests while also giving you the experience of educating our amazing budding artists. You will be working with sophomore and junior students of the program. The class runs on both Monday and Wednesday of each week from 2:30 – 4:45. The proposal is Due June 19th. Call for Artists: Artizan Made

Artizan Made is having a photo contest, the theme for which is “Made by Hand”. You can submit 3 photos. Each has to have a hand in it and something handmade. The hand can be art. You are allowed to manipulate your images. Submit photos by June 28th to here. Artizan Made will be holding similar competitions every month.

Call for Artists: Lets Help Kids “Auction for Happiness

Paintings, ceramics, sculptures, photography, and glass is all being called for an Auction for Happiness, where 100% of the proceeds go to spreading happiness among children in need. Contact info@letshelpkids.org for more information. Submissions are due by August 1st with the auction/reception on Saturday, August 29th.

Call for Artists: Impact at Green Spring Station

This fall, Maryland Art Place is partnering with Green Spring Station for an artist or team of artists to create an original temporary indoor installation comprised of items from the merchants of Green Spring Station, which include resistance bands/dumbbells, bras, nighties, pjs, hair products, blow-dryer, dresses, tennis racquets and balls, boxed stationery, journal, guest books, calendars, sample event stationery, children’s books, wooden toys, and candy. The winner will receive $1,00 to cover the materials and cost of labor. Installation is scheduled to take place between October 1 and November 13, 2015. Green Spring Station will host an opening reception at the site in mid November.

Call for Artists: Creating Connections (Women only)

As an extension of MAP’s annual IMPRINT Project, MAP is working with CyberPoint to offer a unique opportunity to female visual artists of the greater Baltimore metropolitan area. Collectively, MAP and CyberPoint wish to commission and license the image of a new work of art which will be reproduced in a limited edition and presented to the guests of CyberPoint’s Women in Cyber Security reception on November 19, 2015.
The selected artist will receive a $750 Cash Award, increased visibility of artist’s name and artwork through press announcements and be highlighted on MAP and Cyberpoint’s websites.

Maryland Hall: Art Alive Gala Fundraiser and Silent Auction

Maryland Hall’s biggest fundraising event is coming up! September 11th is their annual Gala and silent auction and they need you to contribute. If you wish to donate your pieces please fill out the Arts Alive Silent Auction Donation Form and return at your earliest convenience with gift certificates, promotional brochures and any other materials to Maryland Hall, 801 Chase Street, Annapolis, MD  21401. Tangible donations are due by Friday, September 4th.
