Russell Jewell is a nationally recognized plein air watercolorist. Over the past ten years, while painting exclusively in the medium of watercolor, Jewell has participated in sixteen different nationally recognized plein air events claiming seventeen awards. These awards include the 2013 $5000 Grand Prize at Easels in Frederick, the 2014 Best of Show with Piedmont Plein Air, and two Museum Purchase Awards with Plein Air Easton.
Jewell is published in multiple books and magazines including seven different volumes of North Light’s Splash Series, The Best in Watercolor. He is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society and The Transparent Watercolor Society of America. In 2015 Jewell exhibited with the American Watercolor Society’s 148th Annual Exhibition in New York. Dr. Jewell has devoted over thirty years as an art educator in the public education system. Some of his educational recognitions include a Doctorate in Art Education from the University of Georgia, Teacher of the Year, a Fulbright Memorial Scholar in Japan, and a United States Patent for his Jewell-Box Plein Air Viewfinder.
