Elaine Lisle
Elaine Lisle is a Philadelphia artist whose work emphasizes the immediacy of the moment. Her work often features architectural focal points, figures and reflections with vibrant color and contrast to emphasize the emotional context of the subject. She received a BFA from the University of Pennsylvania and completed post-graduate study at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She has won regional and national awards, most recently receiving Honorable Mentions at the 2014 Easton Quick Draw and the 2015 Philadelphia Sketch Club Art of the Flower exhibit. She has exhibited widely on the East coast, and her richly painted oils are owned by numerous corporations, public institutions and individual collectors around the globe.
Lisle is represented by Gross McCleaf Gallery in Philadelphia, Newman & Saunders in Wayne, PA., Patricia Carega Gallery in New Hampshire and Warm Springs Gallery in Virginia. She was featured in International Artist Magazine in March 2014. She is on the faculty of the Main Line Art Center in Haverford, PA and has led painting workshops in Philadelphia as well as Southern France.
“Each time I begin a painting I am looking to create a sense of joy and recognition for the viewer. A captured moment in time, a portrait of place- that causes you to see it differently and most importantly, with pleasure. I only work in oil, en plein air and from life, though I frequently complete larger complicated compositions in the studio. There is nothing like the excitement of working en plein air, racing against the clock to capture one moment and the piece of that moment that will bring pleasure to the viewer.”
