By June 9, 2014 Me & My Art, Member News

This week’s featured artist:  Carolyn Councell, member since 1980’s:

Carolyn CouncellME:   I have lived in Maryland my whole life, and have been interested & involved in art for most of it.  I reside with my husband in Pasadena on the banks of the Magothy River where I find much inspiration for my paintings in the ever-changing water scenes and activities.  I am a graduate of the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, MD.  I am a signature member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society, The Miniature Society of Painters & Engravers, and I am an active member of the Annapolis Watercolor Club, The Art League of Northern VA, and The West River Artists.  In addition to painting and showing my art, I teach a variety of art classes at the BIG Arts in Sanibel, FL, Anne Arundel Community College, and at Anne Arundel Senior Centers.  Right now I have an exhibit at Paul’s Homewood Cafe… join me for an opening reception Thursday, June 12, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Carolyn Councell, Spring CleaningMY ART:  My art has evolved into many areas: from commercial art to representational to abstract.  I paint in various media and subject, and am presently working in acrylic paint on canvas and Yupo paper doing water scenes and abstracts. I do oil painting on canvas, occasionally of scenes and flowers. Another pursuit is painting in mixed media abstractly and representationally. I  also paint in watercolor on paper en plein air, and in the studio. The painting shown here, “Spring Cleaning”, was painted en plein air.

My art is in private and public exhibits, collected by people in the U.S. and Internationally.  You can find my paintings in local galleries, many varied shows in the Washington/Baltimore/Annapolis vicinity, as well as galleries in Sanibel, FL., Rehoboth, DE, and Bethlehem, PA.

MFA & ME:  I was a member of MFA from the 1980″s for about 20 years. Many art related obligations prevented my continual membership for several years.  I rejoined MFA in 2012, and plan to continue my membership. Many of the exhibits presented at MFA are nationally represented by professional artists.  MFA offers many challenging opportunities for artists, and wonderful events for the whole community, It is an ever evolving organization which has superb management and guidance for artists.
