This week’s featured artist: Lynn Mehta, member since 2008:
ME: Born and raised in La Jolla, California, I now live in Alexandria, Virginia. I hold a B.A. in Art from San Diego State University and have studied with internationally acclaimed artists in the US and abroad. As a landscape painter, I primarily paint outside and travel to paint when I get the opportunity. In my home studio, I create large works from memory and from paintings completed outside, or en plein air.
MY ART: I am inspired by the colors of the landscape and outdoor light much in the manner of the Impressionists of the last century who took their paints outside. As I explore the opportunities of traditional oil paints at the easel, I express myself through brushwork and color. I look for inspiration that makes a universal connection and strive to communicate an idea, or a shared truth about a scene. I choose a variety of subject matter and feel my strongest affinity to unspoiled landscapes.
I compete in several juried shows and plein air competitions. In doing so, I have enjoyed the camaraderie of the artist community, the opportunity to meet patrons of the arts, successes in sales, and multiple awards. My most recent awards include 2nd place in Paint Annapolis 2014, 3rd Place in Piedmont Plein Air 2014, and Artist’s Choice Award at Paint Snow Hill 2014. For updates on shows, images of my work, and more information about my art, please visit my website at www.lynnmehta.com. There you can add yourself to my mailing list and like my Facebook page.
MFA & ME: I joined MFA in 2008 after answering a call for artists to its National Juried Small Wonders exhibit. When I delivered my artwork for the show I immediately fell in love with the Circle Gallery. The community, staff, and volunteers of MFA have been an integral part of my positive experience as a member over the last six or seven years. I attribute much of my professional success to the encouragement and opportunities that MFA offers.
Spread the word about…YOU: Every week, we feature an MFA member for “Me & My Art Monday.” If you would like to be featured, please submit a photo and three paragraphs: one each about YOU, YOUR ART, and MFA & YOU totaling approximately 350 words, to meandmyart@mdfedart.org.
