Me & My Art Monday: Sea Yoon

By December 22, 2014 Me & My Art

This week’s featured artist:  Sea Yoon, member since 2014:

SeaME:  I was born in Seoul, Korea in 1988. At age of fourteen, I moved to U.S. with my family. I obtained my BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, in 2011. During those years, I gained experiences in sculpture, drawing, ceramic, painting, video, and teaching through several internship programs. In 2010, I revisited Korea to study at Hongik University to regain the culture of my country. When I returned to U.S, I received my MAT for certification to teach art. Currently, I am working as an art teacher in Anne Arundel County Public Schools and continuing to pursue my career as an artist. Spending time with the children always gives me an inspiration to think freely. I reside and have a studio in Clarksville, Maryland.

yoonMY ART:  I begin painting what I see which is altered through my eyes with vibrant colors and busy patterns. Frequently appearing images of sweet treats and candy in my painting replace majority of the physical environment. The bright colors and vivacity in candy shops strongly exist in my mind. Thus, the painting is no longer imagination but my invented reality. Every work is an attempt to capture my discovery, and each image is followed by immediate sketching. The intense hue of tempera paint enables me to express my vivid emotional experience. The final touch involves outlining with permanent marker. This process of defining my work allows me to capture these images and solidifies them as real.  View my work:

MFA & ME I am very excited to be a member of MFA family. I got to know more about MFA through MICA network and thankfully my work is on display in the current Small Wonders exhibition. So far I have made some MFA friends and they are absolutely encouraging and supportive. I am looking forward to meeting all the amazing people through the exhibition opportunities.
