Printmaking is an art form that embraces strong technical skills and sometimes even chemistry in a way that transforms into something that can be beautifully textural and full of vibrant colors. Its process primarily involves the transfer of images from a matrix (template), onto a surface such as paper or fabric. This process has been documented as far back as 206 B.C., originating in China’s Han Dynasty as woodblock prints on silk, and is assumed to have existed for much longer. In these present times, there are a variety of types of printmaking such as intaglio, monotype, linocut, and so much more. MFA (Maryland Federation of Art) invites all artists to enter an exhibition that welcomes printmaking artwork for Maryland Hall’s Earl Gallery. This exhibition is open to artists residing in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, and Mexico. All eligible fine art entries in any media will be considered by the juror. Selected works will be displayed in this MFA organized exhibition at Maryland Hall in Annapolis, MD from August 21 – September 25, 2024. Elizabeth M. Rudy is the Carl A. Weyerhaeuser Associate Curator of Prints at the Harvard Art Museums, where she stewards the collection of roughly 60,000 prints made in Europe and the Americas from the 15th century to the contemporary era. She holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University, and her scholarly research focuses on prints of the 18th and 19th centuries. She has published widely on prints, and some of her recent exhibitions at Harvard include Prints from the Brandywine Workshop and Archives (March 4 – July 31, 2022); Dare To Know: Prints and Drawings in the Age of Enlightenment (September 16, 2022 – January 15, 2023); and LaToya M. Hobbs: It’s Time (March 1 – July 21, 2024). 1 or 2 entries $45 (MFA Members $30). Up to 4 additional entries $6.75 each (MFA Members $4.50). Entry fees are non-refundable. You will be asked to pay for the number of artworks you’ll be uploading in advance. You can add more later.
The word “application” means artwork, so one application is one work of art.
“Attachments” means images of the artwork, you can upload up to 2 images. You do not need to pay extra for attachments.
