Introducing The Changing Americas
From the oceans surrounding it to the mountains and rivers dividing it, this land is home to some of the world’s most powerful and striking landscapes. Whether urban, rural, or suburban, landscapes are always changing – sometimes the changes are welcome, and others can lead to unintended consequences. Landscapes are affected by development, restoration, natural disasters, the warming climate, and other natural and anthropogenic factors. Show us the landscapes of your life. This was open to all media following exhibition guidelines, and it showcases original 2D or 3D work that depicts a landscape from the Americas (North America, Hawaii, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America). These works were selected by the juror and are exhibited in MFA’s Circle Gallery from August 28 – September 21, 2024.

Juror Statement
In reviewing the works of art submitted for The Changing American Landscape, even after many years of consuming art as well as making art on my own, I still found myself amazed by artist’s ability to express moods, ideas and emotions. From paints arranged on blank canvases, to reshaped everyday materials we find around us and images captured through a camera lens, skilled artists found ways to transform objects into works of art that represent their visions and that resonate with the viewers. It was very clear that practiced artists from the group set a high standard for craftsmanship, some took risks in order to push boundaries to show a unique perspective or method. Most importantly, artists recognize the value of conviction and the appropriate tone needed to effectively call attention to their message. The works are quiet and thoughtful. This sensibility to making art has the protentional for artists to transported their ideas and visions in time and space to connect with the viewers.
