I am a painter of place and opt for painting plein air, from life and on scene, as central aspects of my painting practice. My subject matter is generally within walking distance of my home studio in Washington DC's Mt. Pleasant neighborhood.  I also paint in the studio using field studies and photographs as reference, especially when producing works larger than 16".

  Though painting notoriously solitary, I've discovered the plein air painter is seldom alone. As I observe and reinterpret, others observe me at work and derive positive meaning from my presence. The artist's appreciation and study of one's everyday environment fosters appreciation in them of otherwise unnoticed beauty. The uplift and joy is mutual, resonant, and synergizes my creative work.

I have been painting since 2005, full-time since 2019, and am primarily self-taught but have received intermittent training from a variety of other artists.
