About the Artist

Ned Egan,   Easton, MD

Ned Egan began digital photography in 2003 after shooting film and for many years. As his children had all left home he dedicated a considerable amount of time to this old indulgence with its new and improved technology. He mentored under a Photographer for several years honing the technical side of computer oriented post processing. He attended a number of workshops and read everything Ansel Adams wrote. He viewed his work as improved and remained anxious about its point of view and content.

He embarked on a journey to study at the Corcoran College of Art+Design, now part of George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Much knowledge was gained from the young photo artists who were doing things he did at their age but thought and talked about it much differently. During his final years at the Corcoran he was able to focus my studies on the local culture of northeastern West Virginia where he worked one week every month. He produced a body of work that was purchased as replacement art work for the hotel where I stayed.

Ned was born in Baltimore and retired and returned to Maryland in January 2017 after being a weekend resident for a year and a half. His photographic intent is to develop connections with the region and community to develop a body of work that reflects and represents the culture and community of the Maryland Eastern Shore. Ned is active with the Tidewater Camera Club encouraging the development of photography as an art form and ShoreRivers fostering oysters, taking water quality measurements on the Tred Avon and is in the process of becoming a Master Naturalist.
