About the Artist

Mueller Ted,   Easton, MD

I’m happiest when a person is in my camera viewfinder. Add beautiful light and compositional elements, and I exist only in that moment of joy and beauty where all else fades away. After years of engineering and science, I rediscovered the joy of photography. I now see the world around me differently – the subtle tones of color, or the shimmer of light or shadow on an object, things I surely missed in my younger days. Photography to me is both a creative process and a technical process. I prefer photographic art over photojournalism, so many of my images are computer enhanced. I enjoy adding a creative flair to my images, so I frequently add textures or blur or combine images for my final product. My style of photography allows me to be creative and whimsical and to create an image that is more than reality.

Ted Mueller was born and raised in Baltimore City. He spent most of his life in the city and surrounding counties where he was educated and worked till retirement. He has a BS in mechanical engineering and an MS in technical management from The Johns Hopkins University. He was employed by The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory as an engineer, system engineer, project manager, and chief programs manager in the Space Department. He also was vice program chair and adjunct professor at The Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering, Master of Science in Technical Management. Ted and his wife Sharon (I’m a “come here” and she is a “been here”), part-timers since 2006, relocated to Easton full time in 2011. After retirement he has studied the photographic arts through workshops, books, the internet, and is a graduate of the New York Institute of Photography and a Certified Professional Photographer. He has been/is a photographer for the Eastern Shore Land Conservancy, Event Giving, Talbot County Office of Tourism, the Avalon Foundation, Discover Easton, TruPlace, Star Democrat, Shore Magazine, and What’s Up Magazine, to name a few.

Ted is a member of the Maryland Federation of Art, Professional Photographers of America (Certified Professional Photographer), Maryland Professional Photographers of America, St. Michaels Art League, and Tidewater Camera Club. He is Treasurer on the board of Discover Easton, and is a board member for Talbot County Arts Council and Historic Easton, Inc.
