About the Artist

Kenneth L. Bachman,   Bethesda, MD

Ken Bachman believes that each painting should create a work that is interesting and fresh. He has always been attracted to representational art in all its many styles, and has studied the different techniques employed by great artists over the centuries. He draws on that background with his own painterly style. He is drawn primarily to landscape scenes for inspiration, and seeks to infuse in his paintings the subtleties in form, light and color that draw him to each composition and create its mood and atmosphere.

He enjoys the immediacy of watercolor painting, as well as the vibrancy, depth and tonal range of painting in oils (both in the studio and en plein air). He has a keen interest in photography and uses this interest to develop compositions that inspire his painting.

He lives and works in Bethesda, Maryland. Recently, he was featured in a solo exhibition of his oil paintings at Glen Echo Park. Two of his paintings were selected by a juror from the Smithsonian American Art Museum for the "Strokes of Genius" Exhibition of the Maryland Federation of Art. He has received six awards for his works in the past year, including one from Eric Denker of the National Gallery of Art. He has exhibited his works throughout the Washington metropolitan area, including in the Glen Echo Labor Day Show, the Kensington Labor Day Show, the Capitol Hill Art League and Hill Center Galleries shows, the Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts show, the Chevy Chase Women's Club Show, the Rockville Art League show, and several other events. Several of his small paintings are currently on exhibit at the New Masters Art Gallery in Rockville and three larger works at the Hill Center Galleries. He is an authorized Copyist at the National Gallery of Art
