As we count down to Paint Annapolis 2015, MFA will be featuring one – or two – artists of the day to let you learn more about the artists who are competing and exhibiting in Paint Annapolis.

Lee Boynton

Lee Boynton was born and raised in Southport, CT. he graduated from Syracuse University with a BFA in 1976 and currently lives in Annapolis. Lee studied with Cedric and Joanette Egeli in Annapolis and with the late master impressionist Henry hensche at the Cape School of Art in Provincetown, MA. He co-authored Painting the Impressionist Watercolor with Linda Gottlieb.

Lee was instrumental in founding the Mid Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association. His work has won awards in Paint Annapolis, Paint Easton and the Wayne Plein Air Festival. Lee has been teaching the Impressionist theories of color and light in both the oil and watercolor mediums in classes and workshops for over thirty years.

“The sea became the spawning ground for my passion for art and I yearned to express the subtle beauty of light playing on the water and the dramatic shifts in mood and atmosphere from day-to-day.”

Lee was a MFA member during the early years in Annapolis. He rejoined and has been a member since 2012.
