Dennis Young

Still active in his office practice of psychiatry, Dennis Young has pursued his other life as an artist for the past seven years.   His oils and pastel paintings favor cityscapes and the human form. A self-taught plein air painter, he is influenced by works in galleries and fine art magazines and by superb local painters. He has garnered multiple awards, including Best Use of Light Award in 2012 at Easels in Frederick plein air competition. In March 2014 the Lighthouse Art Center in Tequesta, Florida presented Dennis with the Peoples’ Choice Award for his “Morning Café” painting in their plein air competition. In January 2015, his studio oil painting of “Recruit” was given first place in oils in the Human Form show at Kent Island Federation of Art in Stevensville, MD. The artist’s intention is to emphasize the light in the painted subject and to create that “postcard” effect of a scene visited and revisited again.Young_Dennis

Dennis is represented by galleries in three states. In 2014 he was admitted with Signature Artist status in the Maryland Pastel Society.

Future plans are to teach pastel painting and to paint en plein air in California and Bermuda.
