Jeremy Shires
Jeremy Shires was born in South Africa, immigrated to the US at age ten, and has since resided in every region of the country. He has made his home in New York City and nearby in New Jersey for the past 25 years.
He earned a BFA from Cal State Long Beach in 1985, and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts NYC in 1994. He ahs spent 30 years working in the commercial film industry as an illustrator while supporting a continue practice of both studio and plein air painting.
He continues to explore new and familiar grounds for painting, while developing an authentic voice within the tradition of plein air. His modern handling of the pictorial landscape depicts a flare for dramatic light, vivid use of color, expressive brushwork, crafty composition, and a fluency in depicting regional character.
