Drum Roll… Let the games begin!! MFA is pleased to Announce the 30 Artists that will be participating in Paint Annapolis 2014 have been selected. Click Here to see a list of Accepted Artists and a complete schedule of events: For those of you just tuning in, MFA will be hosting Paint Annapolis a four-day juried out-door Plein Air Painting Competition this summer – June 23 – 29. In its 12th year, Paint Annapolis is an established event that brings together artists and art patrons from across the country. This year MFA is spicing it up a bit by adding additional prize categories and expanding the event’s boundaries to include all of Anne Arundel and the Four Rivers Region. This year, MFA has added a Nocturne category, paintings done after 5pm which will take place in the Arts & Entertainment section of West Street, see map link:

Selected Artists will be coming to Annapolis June 23 – 29. Awards Juror Billyo O’Donell will select the award winners, MFA has raised over $7000 in prize money for artists. There will be several receptions held in honor of their artistic achievements – keep in mind that Paint Annapolis is like the Olympics  for Artists: that is painting everyday for four days in a row, competing for prize $$ and contending with MD summer weather. When we say Plein Air we mean it.

How Can You Take Part?

There will be two categories open to the public to participate, so get your easels ready and On your mark, get set, paint!!:

Nocturne in the A&E District, Thursday June 26, 5pm: Thursday after 5 pm, artists will be encouraged to paint in the Arts and Entertainment District. Nocturne paintings created in the A&E District will be juried for special awards.MFA will have a location available for sales during the Nocturne. Work receiving the Nocturne Award or sold during the Nocturne event will not be eligible for hanging and/or judging during the regular Paint Annapolis receptions.

Dueling Brushes on City Dock, Dueling Brushes (Open to all artists): 9 am – 2 pm City Dock: Dueling Brushes is a friendly competition requiring artists to produce their best work within a 1.5 hour period. Mid Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association (MAPAPA) will fund and host this special event held on the Saturday morning of the Paint Annapolis competition.Paint Annapolis juried artists are automatically entered in Dueling Brushes at no additional charge, if desired. Artists of any age and skill level may participate in Dueling Brushes for $20 and there is a special category for student participation. At the end of the competition, participants in Dueling Brushes gather to have their work judged and prizes are awarded. The public, who are spectators throughout the event, vote on a “People’s Choice Award” and can purchase paintings at the conclusion of the Dueling Brushes competition. Work from Dueling Brushes will be on display at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts.

As an artists centered organization, MFA is extremely supportive of keeping this event alive to promote cultural enrichment in the Annapolis community.
